Miss California Sparks Outrage Over Gay Marriage

tiaraMixing a beauty pageant with politics is a recipe for disaster. You could make a strong case for it, anyway.

The two merged last night at the site of the Miss USA pageant in Las Vegas. The result was similar to the fallout after the Miss Teen USA pageant in 2007 when Miss South Carolina gave the greatest non-answer answer perhaps in American history. Both times the non-winner of a pageant got all the attention the next day.

Outrage

“Well I think its great that Americans are able to choose one or the other,” she said. “We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you very much.”

“She lost it because of that question. She was definitely the front-runner before that,” Perez Hilton told ABCNews.com

“It did cost me my crown,” she concurred. “I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that’s all I can do.”

A pleasure to come to your site. Thnks very much!

Yes, she does have the right to say what she thinks . . . if she had the ability to think.

She clearly is some sort of religious zealot who confuses civil rights with religious beliefs. The reality is, most gays cannot choose and are discriminated against on a daily basis in a variety of ways, including freedom to marriage. If she lost, she lost because she is intellectually challenged and isn’t able to tell the difference between the two. I guess God gave her good looks but shortchanged her in the intellect department.

She is entitled to her opinion.

I am entitled to mine .

  • caluigi

She is entitled to say that she disagrees with same sex marriage, but she does not do herself any credit with statements like “We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, in my country…”

Does she not know that we cannot choose! As a Miss America pageant .. where does “in my country” fit in.

If she lost due to her statement – it was not for agreeing with or opposing same-sex marriage – but not being able to put together a clear thought!

Generally, I agree with you. Though I would point out that she lives in a country where the majority of the people, including the president, agree with her.

So, this tells us that Perez Hilton (what a pathetic name) is simply a closed-minded, single issue idiot. I am embarrassed that some freak like that is ‘representing’ the gay community. While gays are seeking for ‘acceptance’ from society, we have a goon like this out there showing the dark side of faggotry. Thanks a lot Perez, get a real name, then a real job and leave the rest of us alone!

i agree with you. many gays like perez set us back and hurt gay people. miss california has a right to her opinion.

I am not sure what the outrage is about. She spoke her mind. Isn’t that what she is supposed to do? Hilton did what he was asked to do by the pagent too. He asked a question that was supposed to give us insight into her character. It did. It showed us she is honest even when it’s not politically correct.

This is pathetic. The beauty contestant had the right to express herself. Whatever happened to freedom of speech in this country? Does it only go one way? I am so sick and tired of political correctness. She had as much right to her opinion as everyone else!

I am so sick this type of petty nonsense coming from our side. Here we have some smarmy gossip columnists slamming some airhead pageant trollip for speaking what’s on her mind. We should at least be glad she has one and can construct a coherent sentence. Or should we. Perhaps the South Carolina girl would have been preferred in this instance. Aren’t people allowed to have an opinion any more? Is it OK for a judge to allow his own personal feelings to get in the way of whatever criteria your supposed to use to pick the winner of one of these ridiculous pagents anyway. It’s basically a freaking cattle show. Look at the udders and shut the hell up. Snivveling over this kind of STUPID trivia reduces all of us.

This is not about having a voice of your own. She should have lost… because if she is going to represent the USA, where for after over 200 years we still have to fight for the rights our loved ones { tax paying people ) we don’t need another Anita Bryant standing up for the voice of intolerance.

I agree but check your spelling…
