Watch GOP Rep: Story of Matthew Shepard’s Murder A “Hoax”

As the House of Representatives debates an expansion of hate crimes legislation, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) has taken the rhetoric to a new level, claiming that those who say Matthew Shepard was murdered in Wyoming for being gay are perpetrating a “hoax” on the American people.

“I also would like to point out that there was a bill — the hate crimes bill that’s called the Matthew Shepard bill is named after a very unfortunate incident that happened where a young man was killed, but we know that that young man was killed in the commitment of a robbery. It wasn’t because he was gay. This — the bill was named for him, hate crimes bill was named for him, but it’s really a hoax that that continues to be used as an excuse for passing these bills,” said Foxx.

It is sad that, as Rep. Foxx puts it, we need to find “excuses” to pass bills like this.

Stupid, yes, ignorant homo-phobe, certainly, ill informed, obviously. But don’t blame Foxx’s bigotted biased views on her being Republican. Those of us in the informed intelligent middle who refuse to be a mouth piece for the lib. Dems. or the conserv. GOP can and do represent the majority of Americans. 1000′s of people get robbed everyday without dieing the horrible death Matthew died. Matthew was murdered because he was homosexual.

  • J.J.

Shepard was killed by two disgusting vermin who deserved the chair, but his homosexuality wasn’t the motive. After the facts all came out, it was clearly revealed to be a robbery by two psychopaths, one of whom was bisexual. Denying that will only allow idiots like this woman to use the case for her own political ends.

Rep. Foxx reminds me of those who say the Holocaust was a hoax. I wonder if she thinks so too?

This woman does not speak for the entire Republican Party but unfortunately she does speak for many. How unfortunate. Whether Matthew was killed because he’s gay or for some other reason isn’t the issue here. Protection of me and my gay brothers and sisters is. If we don’t need to be included in the hate crimes bill then let’s toss the whole thing out. Women and black people don’t need it either.

No one anywhere should ever support this stupid person’s efforts in any matter. Even in North Carolina one wonders where they find such people to continue the entirely warranted disrepect afforded our Congress members. Foxx will no doubt become a Fox News expert. She probably also believes that John F. Kennedy wasn’t really shot.

all I can say about FOXX..stupid stupid stupid!!

    • TJ

That is par for the course for the GOP. Foxx needs to get her facts (pardon the pun) straight. She is floating down the river of Denial. If you believe what she says, then you will belive that Bush was the best president ever. NOT
