North Texas & the Dallas/Ft.Worth metroplex police has always been known for it’s bigotry against Mexicans,Negroes and homosexuals. Why do gay people or any threatened minority insist on living in that area? Take your money, your jobs, your tax support and yourself to Austin and be free! Happy Homo 4th of July! and know I won’t ever be visiting Dalas/Ft.Worth to spend my money!Google my name and get my reasoning.Namaste

This is apalling. There is nothing that excuses this kind of systematic bigotry, and those responsible need to be relieved of duty…including the Chief and Mayor if they knew about the plan to do this.

This is why we need a federal hate crimes act. Maybe if there had been one, officers would have thought twice before the responded with such brutal tactics. As long as LGBT are considered second class citizens, these attitudes will not change and attacks will continue to happen. If everyone had equal rights and some were not relegated to second class citizens, then we might not need a hate crimes act, but as long as positions in authority can respond in like fashion with seemingly impunity we need one. They get to choose who they prosecute and what the punishment is and some local authorities base that on who the victim was. I wonder what the reaction would be if the officer that said he was groped would have been groped by a woman and this was the response. I think there would have been a huge public outcry, and this difference in response only illustrates the inequality of different groups’ civil rights.

I live in the Netherlands and took an job and apartment here in part because it is a very accepting society. Gay is not even an issue, nor has it been from many years here. For what happened in Ft. Worth…I’m sure glad that I’m here, where I can be myself and not be singled out because I happen to be gay!
