On July 12, 1996, Congressman Blumenauer (D-Ore) cast what he calls the “worst vote of my political career.” He explains why his vote for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was a mistake and candidly addresses the time he has spent “understanding the problems in his, which has “resulted in frank and important conversations with many gay and lesbian friends, and if anything it has strengthened [his] commitment to the cause of banning discrimination based on sexual orientation.”
