National Organization for Marriage Loses Effort to Keep Names of Donors Disclosed in MaineOct 29th, 2009 | 3 responsesPosted by OIA Staff in NewsThe New Jersey-based National Organization for Marriage (NOM) has been fighting to keep the names of donors to the “Yes on 1″ campaign in Maine private. They lost:
NOM had argued that Maine’s ballot laws (which require “any individual or group that raises or spends more than $5,000 to influence a ballot question vote to disclose contributors who gave more than $100 for that purpose”) were unconstitutional and that individual donors have the right to remain anonymous in referendum campaigns. NOM has not responded to the ruling, which also denied th request for a temporary restraining order…. If the donors are afraid to reveal who they are, one assumes they know that their stance is a bigoted one.
Judge D. Brock Hornby, my hat is off to you and I am glad to see such an intelligent person overseeing justice.
Perhaps they should be reminded of the Bibical verse, ‘Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s and unto God that which is God’s’. This is Caesar’s arena and it’s time to stand and deliver.
