Controversial Jesus penis crucifix

Churchgoers are outraged over a crucifix in a Catholic church that they say shows an image of genitalia on Jesus.

Critics of the crucifix take issue with what appears to be a large penis covering Jesus’ abdominal area. Seeton said the portion of the crucifix in question is meant to be Jesus’ abdomen “showing distension” — not a penis.

Janet Jaime, a local iconography artist who designed the crucifix, had no comment.

This is not an isolated incident, penises have been appearing on Jesus Christ for centuries.

   This is not original (new). There is a centuries old painting that is much better (more subtle). The iconography artist’s rendition is a poor copy.

   I agree. Everyone needs to get real and relax unless they don’t think that is where a person’s abs are! LOL I wish I had abs like that!

   I see why people are confused. But I also see that it’s not meant to be genitalia; if it was, it would be incrtedibly enormous and attched in the wrong place! In any event, it makes no sense to get too worked up over it. It’s historically just about certain that Christ was crucified naked; that gravity-defying cloth on crucifixes is a bow to public attitudes and good taste. The cruelty of public punishment at the time included humiliation as well as pain, and nakedness in that society was absolutely humiliating.
